Going Coconuts Coconuts for Health

Posted under: Travel

If you've been "Going Coconuts" along with me, you will remember that in my last article I wrote about the way coconut oil enhances and benefits the body {diet, skin and hair]. We traveled the islands and continents of the world, sourcing facts of the mir

We look for people who enjoy a degree of health far above that found in most nations, a people who are relatively free from crippling effects of degenerative disease. No-one could help but be impressed by the natives that inhabit the islands of the South Pacific. These people in their tropical paradises enjoy a remarkable degree of good health, relatively free from the aches and pains of diseases that plague most of the rest of the world. They are robust and healthy. Heart disease, cancer, diabetes and arthritis are almost unheard of among those who continue to follow traditional native diets. Researchers have long noted that when these island people start to abandon their traditional diets in favor of Western foods, their health deteriorates. The more westernized the people become, the more their diseases mimic those commonly found in the west. So here we go dear readers, definitely food for thought on our Crystal ship adventure.

The early explorers who visited the South Sea Islands in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries described the islanders as being exceedingly strong, vigorously built, beautiful in body, and kindly disposed. The islanders gained a reputation for their beauty, excellent physical development and good health. Some of the islands were viewed as the Garden of Eden where the inhabitants were perfect in stature and appearance. Such observations may have even fueled interest in the folklore of a fountain of youth. Tales of a mystical island containing such a fountain had been popular for centuries in Europe and led explorers, such as Juan Ponce de Leon, to search in vain for the mythical waters. While a fountain whose waters brought eternal youth was not to be found, the islanders did have a fountain of youth of sorts. That fountain was in the fruit of the coconut tree. The Tree of Life. It wasn't until relatively recently that science began to unlock the secrets to the islanders' good health and discover the many healing miracles of coconut oil. Through pioneering research we now know that it was the coconut-based diet that was largely responsible for the islanders good health and youthful appearance. It was and still is the reasons Pacific Islanders don't get heart disease.

Okay, so with this in mind we travel on. Today people are suffering and dying from illnesses that science predicted forty years ago would be wiped off he face of the earth. Infectious illnesses like tuberculosis, pneumonia, and sexually transmitted diseases, which were supposedly conquered by antibiotics, have just become stronger. Such diseases are now the third leading killer of Americans, after cancer and heart disease, and are becoming a global threat. In recent years, disease-causing bacteria have been staging a comeback and we are in a new age of germ- warfare - the age of the "Supergerm". While medications are still an important defense against bacterial infections, the emergence of supergerms has increased our vulnerability to many diseases we thought would soon be rare or extinct. While antibiotics are losing ground to infectious organisms, nature has provided us an antibiotic that that germs cannot develop a resistance to. Those natural antibiotics come in the form of the MCFA's commonly found in coconut oil. When coconut oil is eaten, the body transforms its unique fatty acids into powerful antimicrobial powerhouses capable of defeating some of the most notorious disease-causing microorganisms. Even the supergerms are vulnerable to these life saving coconut derivatives. The unique properties of coconut oil make it in essence, a natural antibacterial.

Eating coconut oil may be a simple solution to many an illnesses we face today. Laboratory tests have shown that MCFA's found in coconut oil are effective in destroying viruses that cause influenza, measles, herpes, mononucleosis, hepatitis, and AIDS; bacteria that can cause stomach ulcers, throat infections, pneumonia, sinusitis, ear ache, rheumatic fever; dental cavities, food poisoning, urinary tract infections, meningitis, gonorrhea and toxic shock syndrome, fungi and yeast that lead to ring worm, candida, and thrush; and parasites that can cause intestinal infections such as giardiais!

The marvelous thing about using coconut oil to treat these conditions is that while it is deadly to disease causing microorganisms, it is harmless to human beings. Now as we know tropical climates are breeding grounds for all types of disease causing organisms, yet indigenous peoples have lived in these places for generation after generation without a problem. Only those people from other climates, who eat virtually no coconut or other native plants, have a difficult time. Coconut oil may not be able to cure all diseases, but it can help prevent many illnesses, relieve stress on the immune system, and allow the body to resist disease better.

A person who is aware of the health benefits of coconut oil but doesn't use it, is like the person who doesn't wear a seat belt when driving. You've got a seat belt that can protect your health. So best take advantage of it. So if you want to kick of the New Year with a resolution that makes sense, here you go. Sail on sailor. A very happy and healthy new year to you.
